Sales and Use Tax, wow, who EVER wants to talk or even think about them, but all businesses have to deal with them. I’ve spent almost 30 years having to deal with sales and use tax in multiple states but never truly realized how difficult it is until 3 years ago when I was running a business in Seattle which suddenly had to report in California. At that time California had 159 different tax collection districts. As of the second quarter of 2017 California has 207 tax collection districts and has had 415 tax rate changes, all increases, and 726 district changes.
So this leads to some questions like, can I report by County, City or Zip code, to all of which the answer is no. Why make this simple so it can be reported on and we just all move on to other work…
