So, after I sent out my initial Sales and Use tax information on California I received a slew of questions regarding changes for other states, a lot from Washington, so to summarize what’s happened in Washington State over the last couple years the statistics are as follows:
As of the second quarter of 2017, Washington State has 319 tax Locations, 112 MORE than California, kind of shocking considering California has over 38M citizens compared to Washington’s 7M, however, since Washington doesn’t have a state tax they use sales and use tax as their big revenue tool. Over the past couple years there were 143 Location changes and 312 tax rate changes, however, unlike California, only 304 of those changes were increases. Sure, 8 actually decreased!
As an FYI, Washington is actually more complex then California due to different rates for their B&O tax, tax rate on the type of business you run, etc., however it is by FAR not the most complex state. Any guesses?
Please remember, I’ll provide a free review of one of your previous filings along with suggestions for improvement.
